Frequently Asked Questions

I am new to counseling. Can you explain what the process is?

Hello and Welcome! The first step is to reach out and schedule an appointment. Once you are in the calendar, I will set up a patient portal for you and the information will go straight to your email. You will login and complete the paperwork before our first session. Of course, feel free to reach out with any concerns or questions. During our first session we will go over the paperwork, learn a little about each other, and set goals for our time together.

What is the difference between private pay and insurance?

The biggest difference is that when you chose to bill insurance, a diagnosis is required. Some diagnoses carry more weight than others. By submitting a diagnosis, the provider is also required to submit a treatment plan, presenting problem(s), and goals. As a result, this reduces privacy and opens up potentially sensitive information such as the reason you are coming to therapy to others. If you chose to use insurance, the therapist must use their clinical knowledge and diagnose you appropriately. Some diagnosis may keep one from being able to qualify for certain jobs such as the FBI and certain military or government clearances, to name a few. It is important to consider this information if you are contemplating a career that would require an extensive background/medical check as insurance claims will become part of your permanent record.

Are you licensed?

Yes. I have two licenses in the state of Texas – Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor Intern and Licensed Professional Counselor.  I hold a masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and am licensed in the State of Texas.  I have successfully completed necessary state licensing exams in Texas.

How often do you recommend I come to counseling?

This is best determined after a few sessions. However, I do recommend weekly sessions to about 90% of my clients. We can do a standing appointment or adjust weekly as needed to fit your lifestyle.

What primary services do you offer?

I primarily do individual counseling but do couples as well. For children, I also arrange sessions with parents/family regularly, but do not do strictly family counseling.

Do you take insurance?

I currently accept Oxford, Aetna, United Healthcare, Cigna, and Oscar Health. The cost of your session will vary based on the plan you have selected with the carrier. Please contact them regarding copay and deductible payments as these are determined by them.

What do you specialize in?

I specialize in addictions, women’s issues (fertility, postpartum, etc.), and trauma.

How do you accept payments?

Payments are accepted via Square. All major credit cards are accepted and one must be on file.

Do you accept clients who are outside of your specialties?

Absolutely! I see quite a few teenagers, individuals struggling with depression and anxiety, life changes, and couples, to name a few. I have been trained in a spectrum of counseling techniques and have resources for a plethora of life’s challenges.

I am 16 and have an addiction, but my parents don’t know. I want help, but don’t want them to know. What should I do.

In Texas, if you are 16 and older and have been diagnosed with a substance use problem, you do not need a legal guardian’s consent for treatment. Therefore, no adult, guardian or not needs to be involved. Contact me directly at my phone number, 817-631-3217 to discuss your options further and help keep you safe.

I am a child and I know what is happening at home is wrong, but no one believes me.
